Luminous bare skin lit softly against a calm, warm studio backdrop
Lumen · Riverview District · est. 2017

Luminous skin,
seriously cared for.

Medical and cosmetic dermatology under one warm, unhurried roof. Skin-cancer screening, Mohs surgery, laser, peels, fillers — and the everyday concerns we treat like family.

Medical & Cosmetic 76 Riverbend Ave

A dermatology studio that treats your skin the way a good clinician treats a person — slowly, kindly, completely.

Lumen was founded in the Riverview District in 2017 by Dr. Mira Hadid and Dr. Tomás Reyes, board-certified dermatologists who trained together and grew tired of the rushed 12-minute visit. We see fewer patients a day on purpose.

Every appointment leaves room to look closely, ask questions, and explain — whether we are screening a mole, planning a course of laser, or simply helping you understand your rosacea.

Chapter 01 — Medical dermatology

We look at your skin the way a radiologist looks at a film — methodically, and without hurry.

Total-body skin checks, dermoscopy, mole mapping, biopsy when needed, and full Mohs micrographic surgery for basal and squamous cell carcinomas — performed in-house with same-day reconstruction.

Our 98% early-detection rate is the number we are proudest of. We catch melanomas when they are still millimetres, and we treat the common, unglamorous concerns (acne, eczema, rosacea, rashes) with the same seriousness.

Chapter 02 — Cosmetic artistry

Refinement, never distortion. You, a few years softer.

Our cosmetic philosophy is restrained: Botox and filler used to restore, not to re-shape. Laser resurfacing, chemical peels and microneedling chosen for your specific skin — never off a menu.

Every cosmetic visit begins with a 30-minute planning conversation. We photograph, map, and explain exactly what we would do — and what we would not — before a single syringe or beam.

Chapter 03 — Skin as a lifelong practice

Your skin keeps a record. We help you read it — and care for it season after season.

Sun damage, hormonal shifts, stress, the medicine you take — all of it surfaces on your skin. We track it with you over years, adjusting your routine to your face, your climate, your decade.

Members of the Lumen Skin Club receive two full skin checks a year, member pricing on cosmetic services, and a dermatologist's direct line for questions between visits.

Chapter 04 — Hair & scalp

Thinning, shedding, scalp flares — often treatable, always worth investigating.

Hair loss and scalp conditions are medical, not cosmetic. We diagnose the cause — androgenic, telogen effluvium, alopecia areata, scarring — with trichoscopy and labs, then build a personalised plan that may include topical therapy, oral medication, or PRP.

Most patients see meaningful change within four to six months. Early evaluation makes the biggest difference — follicles we can save today are follicles we cannot regrow tomorrow.

The clinicians

Two dermatologists, one quiet studio.

Dr. Hadid and Dr. Reyes trained together at Columbia and have practiced side by side for eight years. You will usually see the same clinician every visit.

Tomás leads our cosmetic studio and is the rare injector who will tell you not to do it. He has taught advanced injection technique to physicians in five countries.

They caught a melanoma on my back at 0.4 millimetres. The surgeon told me later that finding it that early was the reason I am still here to write this.

Verify your coverage

Medical visits diagnose or treat a skin disease — a rash, an acne flare, a suspicious mole — and are typically covered by insurance. Cosmetic visits address appearance — fine lines, volume, pigment, texture — and are elective. Both happen in the same studio, often with the same clinician; we will always tell you which bucket something falls into before we begin.

If you have fair skin, a history of significant sun exposure, more than 50 moles, or a first-degree relative with melanoma, we recommend a baseline full-body check once, then annually. For lower-risk patients, every 18–24 months is reasonable. Your first visit doubles as a baseline mapping — future checks are far more meaningful with one.

We are in-network with most major plans — Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, and UnitedHealthcare — and we will verify your benefits before your appointment. Mohs surgery, biopsies, and most medical visits are covered subject to your plan; purely cosmetic procedures are not. Skin Club members also receive cosmetic pricing regardless of insurance.

It depends entirely on the treatment. A skin check, a Botox session, or a lunchtime peel leaves you presentable the same day. Fillers may bruise for a few days; fractionated laser means 5–7 days of social downtime; Mohs repair needs about two weeks. We give you a written aftercare plan and our direct line for any questions in between.
