Our Heritage

Roots That Run
Generations Deep

Château Noire was founded in 1847 when the Marchand family recognized the extraordinary potential of the sun-drenched limestone slopes overlooking the Dordogne valley. For six generations, we have honoured a singular conviction: great wine is not made — it is grown, patiently, by the land itself.

Our 42-hectare estate practices sustainable viticulture, allowing native grasses to flourish between vine rows, encouraging biodiversity, and disturbing the soil as little as possible. Each parcel is hand-harvested at dawn, when the cool night air preserves the fragile aromas that define our terroir.

Cuvée des anciens

Our flagship blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot from the oldest parcels. Dense cassis and blackberry underneath lifted notes of violet, cedar, and crushed limestone. A wine of extraordinary tension and length — built to evolve for decades.

Les Pierres Blanches

Pure Merlot from our limestone-rich eastern parcels. Ripe plum and black cherry mingle with cocoa powder and a whisper of tobacco. Silky, generous, and impossibly smooth — an invitation to pleasure.

Rosé de l'Aube

Rosé de l'Aube

A saignée-method rosé from young Cabernet Franc vines. Delicate salmon hue, wild strawberry, white peach, and a finish of fresh herbs. Bright acidity and mineral precision make this the perfect warm-weather companion.

The Estate

A Place Where the Land
Speaks First

Set upon limestone bluffs where the river valley unfolds below, the estate is a sanctuary of stillness and purpose. Our 19th-century stone chai, where barrels rest in cool darkness, sits alongside a modern gravity-fed winery designed to treat each berry with absolute gentleness.

Visitors walk through rows of vines first planted by Théophile Marchand himself, taste from barrel in the candlelit cellar, and experience the landscape that gives our wines their unmistakable signature — the tension between power and finesse, between warmth and mineral precision.
